I am an East Tupelo boy, so proud to see a native son not only succeed but rise to stardom and attain worldwide fame, The King of Rock-n-Roll. I am fascinated and thrilled to be a hometown fan, but business opportunities led me to manufacturing. Then came the opportunity to retire and take my dream job as Executive Director of the Elvis Presley Birthplace. I rise every morning excited to meet the fans, talk about Elvis, and join our wonderful staff in making a visit to the Birthplace the experience of a lifetime.

The best part of my job is meeting fans from all over the world. Some of them have become close friends – all thanks to Elvis.

As Director of Sales, I am the shopkeeper of the almost limitless number of collectibles available to Elvis fans worldwide in our gift shop and online. I enjoy the freedom to meet and mingle with Birthplace guests, to be creative, and the opportunity to anticipate what Elvis fans and Birthplace guests might want as part of their collection as they embrace the experience of their visit.

Everyone has an Elvis story. Mine is my time working at the Birthplace. I've had the most amazing experiences and heard people from all over the world share their stories with me, too. Elvis and his fans have completely changed my life.

The Church Lady
Growing up in Jumpertown, north of Tupelo, I worshiped in the little Crossroads Methodist Church. On the first Sunday in May, all the kinfolks returned home to celebrate “Homecoming.” Food, fellowship, and gospel music brought all the cousins home to reconnect and remember. Nowadays, every time I welcome visitors to Elvis’ childhood church, I feel that I am greeting friends and family from around the world. Welcome home!!

In the six years I have worked at the Elvis Presley Birthplace, I have really enjoyed working with the staff and meeting people from different countries, including fans from China, France, England, Germany, and Canada. I have met so many different races of people. I enjoy the work that I do here.

I have been an Elvis fan since I was nine when I discovered the movie “It Happened at the World’s Fair.” I have watched every Elvis movie since. Although I am mostly found greeting guests in the birth house, I am happy to help in any way possible.

I have always been a big fan of Elvis, starting when I was around 2 years old. He held me in his arms while he talked to my parents. And I did get to see him in concert the year before he died. Working at the Birthplace is like a dream job; talking to Elvis fans every day and listening to Elvis sing doesn’t get any better.

Working at Elvis Presley's Birthplace for the past 28 years has been one of the best experiences of my life. Meeting and making friends from all over the world makes me appreciate Elvis more for who he was and what he has meant to us all.

Working at the Birthplace has been a true pleasure. I’ve worked with the team for approximately six years. What I find most interesting in working here is getting to meet fans from all over the world and those who just stop by to pick up a gift for an Elvis fan but end up checking out the tours and walking the beautiful grounds as well.

I grew up being an Elvis fan, but it wasn’t until the last two years that it truly sparked my interest.

I truly love my job as a tour guide in Elvis’ boyhood church. My husband says I would pay the Birthplace to work here. You meet so many people, and friendships are formed like Dale, a songwriter from Florida, Volker from Germany, Cheryl from Michigan, and Allen, a.k.a. “Alvis,” from New York. We are in contact weekly, if not daily. Plus, I have a horse named Elvis!

I was born in Tupelo in 1950. The first house I remember was a house on Berry Street. I loved that house with my parents, two brothers, and two sisters. When I was about five years old, I saw a small house down on what’s now Elvis Presley Drive, and I would visit with the people who lived there. Later, I found out Elvis was born in that house. Now, I can sit in this house (Birthplace) where Elvis was born and tell his story.

Working here has become a full-circle moment for me. I grew up listening to my Aunt Becky telling stories about her special memories with Elvis and how they played together in Mud Creek. Unfortunately, she passed away before she could see me working here, but her stories live on with me sharing them with our guests.

My job is to make sure that the birthplace grounds are properly maintained. I enjoy working here and having Elvis fans compliment me on how neat and clean everything is.
The online store will be down for maintenance until Monday, December 16, 2024
